Communications Manager

This is a full-time, professional level position that creates and disseminates information in various formats. Promotes and supports the communication mission of positive community messaging. Supports departments with marketing, publications, media releases and general public/media relations. Ensures high quality and timely distribution of accurate and relevant information to stakeholders, i.e., citizens, businesses, employees and press. Promotes a positive public image for the community.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide leadership in maintenance and implementation of strategic communications plans, including development of marketing plans to further the City of Cottage Grove’s strategic goals and sustain the City’s reputation and brand.
  • Work collaboratively with staff at all levels to develop and implement communications and marketing strategies, identifying goals, audiences, and appropriate communication tools that are aligned with the strategic direction provided by City Council.
  • Ensure high quality and timely distribution of accurate and relevant information to City stakeholders, including creation of the City’s monthly residential newsletter.
  • Draft, edit, research, proofread and create internal and external communication pieces, including news releases, speeches, articles, presentations, reports, and annual State of the City address.
  • Provide leadership in management of the City’s social media accounts, including development of social media strategies, campaigns, and measurement.
  • Coordinate public access government channel content with the South Washington County Telecommunications Commission staff, including production of the City’s annual report.
  • Oversee content management of the City’s website and Intranet.
  • Assist with planning and promoting internal and external events, such as groundbreakings and employee appreciation events. Attend community events, such as ribbon cuttings and community festivals.
  • Participate in annual strategic planning sessions.
  • Serve as media spokesperson as needed.
  • Researches, develops, implements, and provides support for a marketing and branding program for the City. Creates marketing materials in various formats.
  • Takes photographs and maintains a file of photographs and slides which help chronicle municipal events, activities, programs and services.
  • Recommends and implements changes to enhance effectiveness of communications.
  • Perform special projects and research as assigned. Respond to surveys and requests for information. Conduct surveys and prepare reports as needed.
  • Serve as a liaison to various commissions and organizations.
  • Perform all other necessary duties as apparent or assigned.

Minimum requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, Public Administration, Business Administration, or closely related field. Master’s Degree preferred.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience in a position of broad communications responsibilities. Five years’ experience writing newsletters, articles and press releases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of various programs, including; word processing, spreadsheets, databases and desktop publishing.
  • Demonstrated ability to create visual displays, including; PowerPoint presentations, flyers, brochures and other graphic displays.
  • Experience maintaining and updating a website.
  • Ability to write, edit and maintain quality control and standards.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively orally, electronically and in writing.
  • Ability to self-direct activities and work independently to meet goals and objectives.

Cook -Eagles/River Oaks

The part-time cook positions at River Oaks Golf Course include days, nights and weekends and require excellent customer service and presentation of food and beverages in the Clubhouse. This position is responsible for the preparation of all food menu and specialty items within the Clubhouse.

  • Starting Pay:  $13 to $15 per hour, plus tips for banquet events

Essential Job Functions

  • Prepare all menu and specialty items according to standard recipes and processes.
  • Maintain kitchen and prep area in a sanitary and organized fashion.
  • Responsible for keeping food products up to River Oaks standards.

The part-time Bartender position at River Oaks Golf Course will provide excellent customer service, and stock and operate the bar area.

  • Pay rate: $9.50 per hour plus tips

Essential Job Functions:

  • Responsible for bar set-up
  • Maintain and operate the bar area
  • Take drink and food orders
  • Wait on patrons and wait staff members
  • Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks in accordance with standard recipes, including the service of draft beer, wine, and mixed cocktails
  • Enter orders in cash register, collects payment, and makes change.
  • Wash and sterilize glassware, prepare garnish for drinks
  • Requisitions liquors, other beverages and supplies
  • Arrange bottles and glassware to make an attractive display and merchandise drinks
  • Operate within all applicable health codes
  • Operate within all legal laws and ordinances concerning the service and use of alcoholic beverages

The part-time dishwasher positions at River Oaks Golf Course is responsible for maintaining cleanliness and sanitation standards for plates, cups, glassware, tableware, utensils, etc., using machine and manual cleaning methods. This position also ensures the dishwashing area is maintained as a clean, safe and sanitary facility.

  • Sort and rinse dirty dishes, glass, tableware and other utensils and place them in racks to send through dish washer
