A mix of Generation 2 Rachio Smart Irrigation Controllers, both 8 Zone and a limited number of 16 Zone units, are available to qualified Cottage Grove homeowners for $35 (retail price: $180) on a first-come/first-served basis, thanks to a cooperative agreement with the South Washington Watershed District. More information about the available controller model can be found here.

Smart Irrigation Controllers base watering schedules on current and expected weather, soil and grass type, and existing lawn vegetation, saving water and costs for residents. They can be programmed to accommodate the City’s odd-even and time-of-day restrictions.
All criteria listed below must be met to be eligible for a controller:

  • must be a homeowner in Cottage Grove with a home that is connected to the municipal water system where the controller will be installed.
  • have a currently functioning irrigation system that is at least two years old.
  • knowledge of the number of zones your irrigation system has.
  • have an Apple (iOS 10.3 or later) or Android (4.4 or later) Smartphone (necessary to program and control the controller).
  • have in-home 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi access.

Failure to meet any of the technical criteria may result in compatibility or functionality issues with your controller.

All applications must be submitted online, in-home Wi-Fi internet access is necessary for Smart Irrigation Controller setup and usage.

The smart irrigation controllers will be distributed on a first-come/first-served basis to eligible applicants. The City reserves the right to refuse any application.
Recipient agrees to submit a photograph of their installed controller within 30 days of receipt and agrees to allow the City to verify the installation of the controller.
